A consortium of European thin-film photovoltaic manufacturers and research institutions is working to develop copper indium gallium selenide (CIGS) solar cells through a €5.9 million ($6.4 million) project. The goal is to achieve 25% battery power conversion efficiency by improving the manufacturing process and scaling from lab-scale bifacial devices to small outdoor test assemblies suitable for a range of applications.
